So we would like to get some brainstorming from all you great teachers in our lifes, of reycled art projets. our materials mostly consist of water bottles, TP rolls (big ones), newspaper, etc. we would like to do somthing funcional, so let the ideas flow....

I'm sure grandpa Bob might have some wonderful ideas but the first thing that came to my mind was a sculpture sort of like a relief map, cutting the rolls into different lengths and gluing them side my side to form sort of and undulating landscape. If you don't have glue flour and water works as a glue. You can also make musical instruments with the water bottles by filling them with beans or stones and then painting them or gluing stuff to the outside. You can make animal figures out of the bottles or roles with just a little yarn to dress up the head of the animal. Bottle caps make good eyes or hoofs. You can also make a model vehicle with the circular form of the rolls or bottles, make a tractor, car or even (my favorite) a bike!
Hope this helps get your creative juices flowing.
Love ya, Mama

Yo travelers!
In the old days the people that (who, mom might be reading this) left on their journeys might not have been seen for many months or even years, but you I can almost see at least once every week!
Julie found a recipe, I mean plan, for a toy boat! Wouldn't ya know it! (I was thinking recipe because she's been making coconut pies and pollo etc.!) What you do is you take a plastic, quart sized, bottle and cut the side one third off leaving the pointy end uncut as the bow. (Do not cut all the way down to the bottom, leave about 2-3 cm to keep the stern rigid. and do not cut too far forward [bottle top end] to leave a sloping front deck and support for the mast.)
The part you've cut out you fold in half, longways, (hotdog style, not hamburger style, as we say) and then fold back two side flaps (hotdog style) to use as tabs to tape (duct tape, sticky tape) to the bottom of the ship! You fill this cavity with weights to keep the boat upright. A stick for a mast and a stick for a boom (or yard, if you want a square rigged ship) and a plastic bag sewn on for a sail and possibly paint, and you've got a ship! (Assuming agua.)
So, she also thought you might make a bird feeder (assuming birds). We use to use a gallon jug with side cut out, remember?
What else....hmmm....a mobile? a box with dowel through it for a handle? a lizard feeder? (family joke)
Around here we're having a hot spell, its 11:30 and 98 degrees, 107 degrees yesterday and supposed to be hotter today! yikes! We rented a splitter with dennis (up the road) and split up those trees we cut down last fall, requerdas? Jess is coming over this evening, we will pick cherries and relax.
The boat is uncovered and will go in next week,
Bye, Love You, Daddy

Hey able,

I was thinking that you might try making a birdhouse or bird-feeder with the plastic bottles and some sticks. They could be fun to paint and even more fun to hang (tree climbing exercise). You might want to weigh the base down so the birds have a stable landing pad and some wind resistence. Lure the birds with straw and berries?! :-)

Hope your travels are safe and fun.

Ciao,

Chop

As I read on, your dad beat me to the bird house/feeder idea.

So maybe try making digerdoos with some plastic piping and bees wax (if available) torch the sides (remember safety first)to warp, contort and distort. Paint and engrave designs.

Different lengths create different tones and circular breathing is done in the cheeks and diaphragm.

Good Luck
